With an impressive turnout, the concert featuring Lina Nikolakopoulou, Thodoris Voutsikakis, and the participation of Alkmini took place in Karamanou Square, reminding everyone that the effort to protect Poros and the marine environment continues.
On Monday, June 22, Poros experienced an evening that went beyond the boundaries of a concert, as “Mother Sea II” was held with great success in Karamanou Square.
The evening had a clear purpose and message: to keep collective awareness alive regarding the prospect of establishing a Planned Aquaculture Development Area in Poros and to remind everyone that protecting the sea, the island’s natural landscape, and its identity remains a shared responsibility.
Lina Nikolakopoulou, Thodoris Voutsikakis, and Alkmini, together with the outstanding musicians who accompanied them, created a deeply moving and meaningful atmosphere during an evening dedicated to the sea, the power of art, and raising collective awareness for the protection of the marine environment.
The public response was remarkable. Residents and visitors of Poros filled Karamanou Square, enthusiastically attended the concert, sang, applauded, and actively participated in a musical experience that continued to be widely discussed across the island the following day. The audience’s response confirmed that “Mother Sea” is not merely a title, but a shared place of memory, emotion, and responsibility.
The concert took place at a particularly significant moment for Poros. Following years of effort by the municipal authorities, organizations, associations, and active citizens, the recent negative decision regarding the designation of a Planned Aquaculture Development Area (PADA) on the island represented a meaningful vindication for the local community. At the same time, however, the evening itself highlighted that the effort has not yet been completed. The need for continuous monitoring of developments, institutional consistency, and ongoing public awareness remains as strong as ever.
“Mother Sea II” was not an evening of complacency. It was an evening of gratitude to all those who have contributed to the effort so far, but also a reminder that the struggle for the permanent protection of Poros and other areas threatened by similar development plans continues.
