Spreading Forest Fire Prevention Efforts in the Argosaronic

It was a pleasure to support the efforts of Desmos, WWF Greece, and HIGGS in spreading the word across our Argosaronic network about a most crucial online workshop on the prevention of forest fires, held on March 10. Τhe workshop was one in a series of similar educational activities held at the regional level under the national-scale initiative “Volunteer Forest Fire Protection Support Program (2024-26)” carried out in partnership by the three entities. The programme which is supported by National Bank of Greece, John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation and Athina I. Martinou Foundation, consists of a wide range of actions aimed at training, empowering, and strengthening local teams and volunteers, along with local authorities and services in the prevention and response to wildfires.

We valued the opportunity to take part in this insightful workshop and getting to know more about the forest fire prevention content and legislative framework, local-level prevention planning and prevention methods and public awareness.

Due to climate change and insufficient forest management, our forests face increasing risks. Having well-prepared and engaged volunteer forest firefighters and active citizens is essential for the better protection of our ecosystems and local communities. We are grateful to Desmos, WWF Greece, and HIGGS for launching this initiative and are proud to have played a role in supporting it.

Together, we are making our region safer and more resilient. Stay tuned for more updates on fire prevention efforts and environmental protection in the Argosaronic!
