More than 300 people joined AEF’s first three community screenings in Nafplio, Aegina and Poros, exploring the beauty of our ocean, the pressures it faces and its remarkable capacity to recover.
This summer, the Argosaronic Environment Foundation (AEF) took Ocean with David Attenborough on a journey across the Argosaronic and Argolida, bringing the film’s message of ocean recovery directly to local communities.
The screenings were organised by AEF as part of Revive Our Ocean Greece, the Greek chapter of the international Revive Our Ocean initiative, coordinated in Greece by the Cyclades Preservation Fund (CPF).
From Nafplio to Aegina and Poros, hundreds of residents, visitors and children came together under the summer sky to discover an extraordinary underwater world and reflect on a simple but powerful message: when pressures are reduced and nature is given the space and time it needs, the ocean can recover.
First stop: Nafplio
The journey began on 18 August at Fougaro Art Center in Nafplio, as part of Politistiki Nafpliada 2026, bringing ocean conservation into one of the city’s key cultural events of the summer.
More than 100 people attended the screening, including over 30 children, demonstrating particularly strong interest from younger audiences.
The evening was opened by Theodosis Spantideas, President of the Progressive Association of Nafplio “Palamidis”; Christos Goumas, Deputy Mayor for Culture and President of the Municipal Port Fund of Nafplio; Daphne Mantziou, Executive Director of AEF; and Roxani Naasan Aga–Spyridopoulou, AEF Marine Programme Officer.
The screening was co-organised with the “Palamidis” Cultural Association of Nafplio, the Municipal Port Fund of Nafplio and the Municipality of Nafplio, with Fougaro Art Center providing a memorable open-air cinematic setting.
Next stop: Aegina
On 31 August, the journey continued to Perdika, Aegina, where 114 people gathered at the Municipal School of Perdika for the second screening.
The event took place in the framework of the Aegina Fistiki Fest, connecting the festival’s strong local and cultural identity with a wider conversation about the sea, marine biodiversity and ocean recovery.
The evening was introduced by Eleni Stampogli, founder of Aiginaia, the Deputy Mayor for Culture of the Municipality of Aegina and organiser of the Aegina Fistiki Fest and Daphne Mantziou, Executive Director of AEF .
The screening was organised in collaboration with Aiginaia and the Municipality of Aegina, with the support and participation of the local Perdika community.
Third stop: Poros
One day later, on 1 September, Ocean with David Attenborough reached Poros, where another 102 people joined us for an open-air screening at Cine Diana.
The evening was introduced by Tasos Rodis, Director of Katheti, and Daphne Mantziou, Executive Director of AEF, welcoming the audience and connecting the global story presented in the film with the importance of protecting the sea surrounding our own island communities.
The Poros screening was co-organised with Katheti, under the auspices of the Municipality of Poros, with Cine Diana offering the setting for another cinematic experience under the stars.
More than a film screening
Across the three locations, more than 300 people joined the first leg of this journey.
For AEF, these screenings are about more than bringing an extraordinary wildlife film to new audiences. They are an opportunity to create spaces where local communities can meet, learn, ask questions and reconnect with the marine environment that surrounds them.
This is at the heart of Revive Our Ocean Greece: using Ocean with David Attenborough as a starting point to bring marine protection closer to local communities, raise awareness of the pressures facing our seas and inspire local action for their protection and recovery.
The enthusiastic response in Nafplio, Aegina and Poros showed just how much interest there is in our local communities in the sea around us and in how we can help protect it.
And this is only the beginning.
More screenings and opportunities to explore the ocean together will follow.
